Not tied to the desk by any means
Many thanks for all the supportive emails I’ve gotten from people lamenting the lack of overseas property coverage in the media these days. It is all very encouraging for me as a writer.
How’s it going as a journalist with nowhere to write? Well not too bad actually. I’m finding this whole writing for myself bit quite enjoyable, and others seem to be enjoying the extra content on the website. The support is greatly appreciated and I’ll try, in so far as I possibly can, to deliver worthwhile content that may actually be of some use to readers. It’s good to know that there are so many people out there willing to go and find my website to read the stuff that I’ve written. Traffic to my site is up by 104% month-on-month since I stopped writing for the Examiner, so I guess it’s true about the ill wind that doesn’t blow some good.
I’ve also been doing an amount of consultancy work for groups attempting to recover deposits from abroad where developments have been badly delayed, so I haven’t been chained to my desk for weeks on end.
All in all it’s a great shame that the Irish media doesn’t see fit to cover overseas property, considering how much Irish investment is tied up in the sector and how badly advice is needed these days, but buyers desperate to recover deposits or sell property don’t put bucks in the back pockets of our news moguls, and that’s what it boils down to. I’m afraid I don’t make decisions governing what get’s published in Irish newspapers and what does not. I can only govern what get’s published here on my own website.
